Nathan studied film history at college before attending university where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in photojournalism and film production. Post-graduation, he began interning under award-winning New York photographer Danny Clinch, an experience that left a lasting impact. It also led to a full-circle moment when Clinch asked Haynes to lens the behind-the-scenes photographs and contribute to the cinematography on the John Varvatos SS13 campaign, which featured Icons Gary Clark Jr and Jimmy Page.
He went on to intern with master printer Ryan Speth and founder of Gotham Imaging, Peter Berberian. This led him to a role at Niche Editions, where he became a print technician, collaborating with photographers, artists, and institutions to produce fine art prints and reproductions across England and Europe.
Later he moved to Canada to work for documentary director Stan Yamashita as a cinematographer. The assignments lead them to many tough environments such as working in the smelting pots in Mexico, chemical and steel factories across the bible belt, gold and cobalt mines, cattle ranches, and operating theatres.
His own body of work eventually landed him an agency roster spot at Partners Film in Toronto as a commercial director. He directed and lensed work for a range of advertising campaigns until eventually stepping away to focus back on his photographic and journalistic work.
In 2026 Haynes presents only his portrait and documentary photographic work.
